Busy Bee

Annoying internet speed and restless nights are the only two reasons that I haven't been blogging for the past weeks. I swear, I've been checking in and out of Tongue in Chic more than my own blog, likewise for the writings too.

To sum up what I've been up to, I guess I'll have to start from my birthday.

Lunch with Owen at The Bee. One of those places that they actually took the effort in doing their interior design. Also, The Last Polka is like the substitute for my happy food, Crumbs.

Dinner at Cafe Chulo, Jaya One after my work with my folks. I had a really hard time picking restaurant for my birthday dinner. Actually had the urge to go for a Mexican meal, but I turned down the thought since my brother, who isn't a true Malaysian, *ahem* doesn't take spicy food well.

To me, the food was pretty decent. Well just decent, nothing to wow or wah about the place or food. For any normal occasion I would have been satisfied, but since it was my birthday I was a tad bit disappointed.

My main course. Looks pretty neat aye? Gotta thank my new lens for that! And also my parents who took the trouble to switch to a table that had a better lighting. I'm spoilt just like that.

I would be lying if I told you that I just ended my day like that. Called out my college peeps to have satay with this girl who's obsess with her own home country's food. Then a round of beer came afterwards.

Sometimes, I'm grateful that I went to Hong Kong alone to further my studies, at the same time broaden my social circle. I thought I was crazy at first when my news feed showed that Xian Hui wrote on my primary school mate's wall. I actually double checked to make sure it was legit! Mind you, I took my primary studies all the way in Alor Star, Kedah.

This week came and left really quickly. I remember having a crazy weekend, Monday blue and now it's already Friday. Gotta chop, chop to finish up another restaurant I had my birthday dinner, 'cause by the time I realise, I might be packing for Hong Kong.

2nd day of easter break

Before having a day alone out in Mongkok, I attended my roomie, Carinne's dance performance on last Saturday.

The day started off late again, with me sleeping in, missing the daytime. Headed out for my favourite bowl of porridge in Causeway Bay.

So far, this is my perfect place for porridge and rice dumplings. It's located somewhere near Time Square. The price for the food there is whoopingly expensive, and hence that explains why I don't go there often. Plus, the rice dumplings that's serve there comes in a really big portion and it'll be a tad bit crazy of me to finish it all alone.

On the way to Chai Wan for the show, I Open Rice-ed again, to check out if there were any desserts shops nearby. Picked a coffee shop that's famous for their Soymilk Coffee.

Apparently, Soymilk Coffee is somewhat like 'vegetarian' coffee. I tried it, felt no difference between that and a normal coffee and it costs me $14. Well, no need to promote about it then.

Now let's just fast forward everything to the interesting part, this post is starting to get boring. *yawns* After finishing the performance,  we went all the way to Wan Chai to have American breakfast at 11pm. Yes, this is a restaurant 24-hour American breakfast restaurant, called Flying Pan.

This restaurant has become one of the solid reason for me to stay sober after clubbing. I came here twice before, always after my night life in Lan Kwai Fung. Then only head back to my campus with a tummy filled with yummyness.

I suggested everyone to go there for a late dinner after Carinne's performance. I was glad that everyone actually enjoyed the food.

Sorry for the tad blurry pictures 'cause we were being seated in a dimly lighted area and I forgot about my flash gun. Well no fret, I bet I'll still have chance to make up for it, and do some justice for the awesomeness of the food through my lenses.

In my favourite stage.

Mak Man Kee Noodle Shop, Jordon Street

I'm not really a big fan of noodles, hence you seldom see me posting about shops which serves them. This time is an exception because I was with Huan and Nana yesterday on a major food tour. We dropped by at Huan's favourite place for Wanton noodles, Mak Man Kee.

Dry Wontan Noodles

I can't really tell if the noodles was superb but I can say that the number of wanton that they gave defintely exceeded my expectation. There were 6 juicy, huge wantons in the noodles.

Wanton Noodles in Soup

It's obvious that the noodle portion for the soup one is slightly lesser than the dry one. However, the number of wantons are still the same, so no worries. Something that you should know, the dry noodles are really dry. Even if you pour some soup over it, the noodles just quickly absorbs all the liquid. You can ask the staff to pour some of the pork knuckles' sauce over the noodles if you want to add a little taste to it.

These are some of the side dishes.

The ambassador for the shop. *jokes* The shop is located just next to the famous Australian Dairy Milk Company, so it's not that hard to find it.

Shop: Mak Man Kee Noodle Shop
Address: G/F, 51 Parkes Street, Jordan.
Directions: Take the MTR to the Jordon station, exit at the C2 exit. Walk down and turn right on the second junction you see.

This self-pampering thing has slowly become a habit.

Please welcome back my blogging mojo

I've ignored my blog for quite some time before the blog post on Apgujeong Korean Tent Bar. Now my blogging mojo is back!

10 pieces of salmon sushi for $30

White top from Pull & Bear

I had a quick getaway to Diamond Hill in between a meeting and my hall gathering. Right now, I'm waiting for the clock to strike 10 to attend a meeting for a proposal that is due tomorrow.

Today I had a cranky day, did my roles as an obedient university student and attended all the classes. *pats back* Then i went for a retail therapy. (:

There's going to be 2 interviews tomorrow so again, wish me luck! *fingers cross*

There's only two things that will heal a broken heart, time and the right one.

Apgujeong Korean Tent Bar, Knutsford and Crumbs Froyo, Causeway Bay

This is another long overdue post. Few weeks back, I followed a few Korean and international friends to reminisce the awesome taste of Korean food.

One of our tour guide, Ji Ho.

Apgujeong Korean Tent Bar was our pick, since the another restaurant on Kimberley Street was full. The restaurant was at Knutsford Terrace, a few streets away from Kimberley. Kimberley Street on the other hand is also nicknamed as mini Koreatown, you can easily find a few Korean restaurants there.

The side dishes. *noms*

Bulgogi (beef), one of my favourite Korean dish!

These are dishes that the Koreans usually order when they're having a drink, not for their proper meal. (: But still, all of it tasted gooooood and I'm willing to have it at any time of the day!

Then to top it all up, we had the Korean meal box, Dosirak.

Food was really good, but I can't do much comparison since this was my first time having Korean cuisine in Hong Kong.

As usual after a hefty meal, I suggested to go for desserts! Crumbs froyo was my pick. I've tried several froyo brands in Hong Kong, but not the one and only Tutti Fruitti back in Malaysia. :P

After all the trying several times of froyo with different toppings, I've learnt that to keep the flavour of the froyo distinct, I always avoid putting anything fruity. That's why my favourite toppings would be the House Crumbs and mochi. (: I've previously blogger about my experience in Crumbs, Tsim Sha Tsui here too.

Hon Wo Korean Restaurant, Causeway Bay

A night out with Ray and Jinny. The crowd there was insane and we couldn't make a booking before hand because they only accept bookings if you have 5 people or more.

Some of the sides that they have in the buffet.

Since it was a Korean BBQ, the key rule was to have lots and lots of meat! :)

Both my partners-in-crime for the night.

The Korean BBQ was just so-so, definitely incomparable to those in Korea. :( To me, it was just like indoor BBQ, where you can see what you're eating is actually cooked. Not much of a Korea taste in it.

Ice cream and fruits to end the hefty meal. Tummy was so bloated after the meal! Although it was no authentic Korean meal, but it was definitely one of those good food that I've had.

After the dinner, we walked over to another building in Causeway Bay to catch a movie, The Season of The Witch. This movie was screened back in Malaysia last year but I didn't get to watch it. I was having a good feeling about the movie since Nicolas Cage was starring in it.

I enjoyed my first cinema experience in Hong Kong. The seats and spacious and the row in between them are wide too. Hence you don't need to stand up for people to get to the next seat to you when the movie's going on. :) That's the way it should be.

Keep calm, move on.
